Ready to get UNsmashed? Bourbon and fresh strawberries are match made in cocktail heaven in this springtime cocktail and it's guaranteed to keep a spring in your step.
3 oz The Spirit of Bourbon
1-1/2 oz strawberry rhubarb syrup*
3⁄4 oz lime juice
2 fresh strawberries hulled and quartered
2 dashes of orange or rhubarb bitters
1⁄4 oz Aqua fava
Ground black pepper
In a shaker, muddle the strawberries with the strawberry/rhubarb syrup. Add the remaining ingredients,except the club soda, and shake with ice. Strain into an ice filled highball glass, top with soda and garnish with a pinch of black pepper and a mint sprig.
*To make the strawberry/rhubarb syrup. Ingredients
1 pound of strawberries
1 pound of rhubarb
1 cup of water
1 cup of white sugar
5 slices peeled ginger root Zest and juice of 1 lime.
Stem and half the strawberries.
Chop the rhubarb into 1” pieces.
Put everything into medium saucepan and add the water and sugar. Bring to a boil and simmer for 20 mins or until the fruit has fallen apart. Let it steep and cool in the pan.
Strain out the fruit using a fine mesh strainer or a piece of cheesecloth inside a sieve. Let gravity do its work here to get more syrup.
Save the solids to put on ice cream or on your toast in the morning!
It will stay good in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.
