For those who love cocktails

We love cocktails: the complexity, the nuance, the balance, the feeling of something made just for you, and the way a good drink can hold a moment. But we didn’t love everything too much alcohol brought to the party.

So we asked an almost heretical question:

What if alcohol didn’t have to be the “star player” of a great cocktail?

That question led to the creation of Free Spirits. We make non-alcoholic spirits designed to do exactly what traditional spirits do: add structure, build flavor, and provide the "bite" and body that make a cocktail actually work.

We’ve reconstructed the icons of the bar cart so you can mix a better cocktail at whatever proof makes sense. Our core collection includes non-alcoholic alternatives to bourbon, gin, tequila, Italian aperitivo, and vermouth rosso.

And when you want the drink handled for you, our ready-to-drink cocktails bring the same idea to the fridge, the cooler, the dinner table, the party, or the “I’m not mixing tonight” moment, with our Margarita, Kentucky Mule, Negroni, and Espresso Old Fashioned.

Use our spirits on their own for non-alcoholic cocktails, or mix them with traditional spirits for lower-proof drinks. They put you in control of what’s in your glass: you pick the proof, dial in the perfect buzz, and keep the cocktail intact. This is why Free Spirits exists: to keep the cocktail intact while giving you control over how much alcohol comes with it.

Reconstructing the Spirit

A great cocktail needs more than just a flavor profile; it needs a backbone. That is where a lot of non-alcoholic spirits miss the mark. They may capture a note, a scent, or a familiar flavor, but they do not always replace what the base spirit actually does: aroma, body, bite, texture, balance, and finish. If you remove the alcohol without replacing that role, the drink might look right, but it quietly falls apart.

So we developed our own approach: Distillate Reconstruction. We identify the raw materials, interactions, and alchemy that give a traditional spirit its unique flavor profile. Then we source natural ingredients like American white oak, European juniper, and Mexican blue agave, distill their essential flavors, and reconstruct the spirit into something bigger than the sum of its parts.

Where the alcohol was, we infuse ReBel, our own cocktail of B-vitamins to restore some of what life (and alcohol) can take out of you. Because the goal was never to make something with less. It was to make something more.

Made by People Who Love Cocktails

Free Spirits was born in Marin County, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, a place with a long history of people who aren’t particularly interested in the status quo.

Around here, questioning the rules is less of a rebellion and more of a reflex. In bar culture, that makes us a kind of counter-counterculture. We’re not here to tear down the bar. We’re here to give you a better way to experience it.

We’re still a small team. We taste everything together. We argue about flavors. We obsess over details most brands wouldn’t bother with, because you can’t build something real for cocktail lovers if you don’t love cocktails yourself.

Our founder, Milan Martin, didn’t set out to make a wellness substitute or a stand-in. He wanted to drink the way he actually wanted to drink: with more control, better options, and no downgrade in the glass. When he realized nobody was making that, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work.

Free Spirits is for people who feel the same way: people who care about the drink, but want more say in how much alcohol comes with it. It belongs on the bar, in the fridge, on the table, and anywhere someone cares what’s in the glass.

Proof in the Glass

Even after all the acclaim and more than 80 international medals, the question we care about most is still the same: does the cocktail work?

Does it have structure? Does it have balance? Does the spirit still show up in a proper cocktail? That is what we care about most. Because the goal was never to make a good mocktail. It was to make a good cocktail.

No label. No lecture. No sad substitute. Just a better way to mix and enjoy a cocktail.

So, however you pour it, make it yours.

FAQs

What is Free Spirits?

Free Spirits makes premium non-alcoholic spirits and ready-to-drink cocktails designed to do what spirits do in a cocktail: add structure, build flavor, bring bite and body, and help the drink actually work.

Are Free Spirits non-alcoholic?

Yes. Free Spirits are non-alcoholic spirits, meaning they contain less than 0.5% ABV. You can use them on their own for non-alcoholic cocktails or mix them with traditional spirits to make lower-proof drinks.

How do I use Free Spirits to lower the proof of a cocktail?

Use Free Spirits as a full replacement for the traditional spirit, or split the base by mixing Free Spirits with a traditional spirit. You control the proof, dial in the perfect buzz, and keep the cocktail intact.

What is Distillate Reconstruction?

Distillate Reconstruction is our process for rebuilding the character of classic spirits without making alcohol the star player. We identify the raw materials, interactions, and alchemy behind a traditional spirit, then source natural ingredients, distill their essential flavors, and reconstruct the spirit into something bigger than the sum of its parts.

How is Free Spirits different from a mocktail?

A mocktail is often built around what is missing. Free Spirits are built around what a cocktail still needs: structure, balance, body, bite, and finish. The goal was never to make a good mocktail. It was to make a good cocktail.

Where is Free Spirits based?

Free Spirits was born in Marin County, California, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.
